U.S. Citizens for Peace & Justice - Rome

invites you to participate in selecting films for our

2017-18 EYES WIDE OPEN
FILM SERIES

Committee meeting held on November 9th
at the Circolo ARCI Arcobaleno
via Pullino 1 (Metro Garbatella)

Minutes

Present: the Rome members of the Committee (Gene, Luke Patrick); Ilona, our committee member now living in Mexico but still active, was there in spirit.

The meeting was open to one and all and lasted from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

Jeanne came with an extensive list of films to propose, each one with a descriptive summary, and was co-opted on the spot into the Committee.

The following films, drawn from the Committee's shortlist plus Jeanne's contribution, were selected to be vetted by Committee members. “Vetted” means judging if the film at least seems worth showing, and justifies the purchase of the DVD to see if it is.

Themes we'd like to treat but, as of yet, have not been able to find suitable films about:

1) The atrocious war in Syria (and Iraq) and the countries behind the creation of Isis;

2) The crackdown on whistleblowing in the Government, to stifle criticism from within;

3) “New Politics” (rethinking society), which seems to be taking root in the U.S., in particular among younger people.

The next Committee meeting open to all will be announced on this web page after the Christmas/NewYear break.

In the meantime, you can also send us via email
your ideas of films or themes to take into consideration.
