Minutes Present: the Rome members of the Committee (Gene, Luke Patrick); Ilona, our committee member now living in Mexico but still active, was there in spirit. The meeting was open to one and all and lasted from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Jeanne came with an extensive list of films to propose, each one with a descriptive summary, and was co-opted on the spot into the Committee. The following films, drawn from the Committee's shortlist plus Jeanne's contribution, were selected to be vetted by Committee members. “Vetted” means judging if the film at least seems worth showing, and justifies the purchase of the DVD to see if it is.
1) The atrocious war in Syria (and Iraq) and the countries behind the creation of Isis; 2) The crackdown on whistleblowing in the Government, to stifle criticism from within; 3) “New Politics” (rethinking society), which seems to be taking root in the U.S., in particular among younger people. Because of a dwindling audience, the film series was suspended after the December 14th screening. The next Committee meeting, open to all, will therefore be announced on this web page (if and) when the film series resumes.
