Liz Carter, statunitense, ha lavorato come volontaria a New Orleans con il National Trust for Historic Preservation e il Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans, nei mesi di novembre e dicembre 2005. Ha lavorato insieme a professionisti del restauro e della conservazione provenienti da varie parti degli Stati Unit. Tra i loro compiti, sopratutto, offrire assistenza e consigli ai residenti, essere testimoni diretti di quanto stava accadendo, fornire informazioni al National Trust e promuovere il sostegno economico e politico per la ricostruzione della regione.
Ha visto l'impatto dell'uragano sulle famiglie, sui quartieri, sulle comunità e sull'intera struttura sociale della città. Da queste esperienze è stata indotta a raccontare quello che ha visto a coloro che desiderino saperne di più rispetto a quello che dicono i media.
Per Liz Carter "C'è un nesso chiaro fra i concetti di pace e giustizia con quello che succede sulla costa del Golfo di Messico; non si tratta della sola conservazione del pratimonio archittetonico, ma piutosto di salvare le culture, i popoli, le famiglie e difendere i loro diritti."
